BLUE COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUES

Blue Plaque - Frank R Clark Blue Plaque - Turret Clock Blue Plaque - George Pearson

Blue plaques have traditionally been used for over 140 years to commemorate a famous person or memorable acts . The idea of erecting ‘memorial tablets’ in London was first proposed by William Ewart MP in the House of Commons in 1863. The first plaque erected in London – to the poet Lord Byron –  was in 1867.

Nowadays blue plaques are used as a lasting statement of the achievements of an individual or group of people. They can also be used to illustrate the history of a particular building or site, or erected to mark an historic event.

Cast in long lasting polyurethene resin, with  all letters and detail in relief, blue plaques manufactured by Signs of the Times are hand painted in durable quality paints.

A blue plaque does not have to be just text, your council or company crest or coat of arms can be faithfully reproduced in relief on your plaque.  All detail is painted by our skilled artists in full colour to match your own artwork.

Signs of the Times offer a choice of fixings for their plaques.

Through face fixing with holes pre-drilled and plaques supplied with brass dome headed screws painted to match background colour.

Through face fixing with holes pre-drilled and plaques supplied with security screws and special screw driver.  These offer a greater degree of security as screws cannot be removed with the appropriate tool.

Invisible fixings - threaded studding fixed to rear of sign using strong 'big head' sockets.  To install  the wall or plinth is drilled in the appropriate places and the plaque is then permanently fixed into place by cementing studding into holes using a suitable product.  This method offers a permanent fixing and also does not intrude onto the face of the sign.
