Signs of the Times was started in 1984 by David Dokk-Olsen who had always admired the craft of the cast iron foundries of Great Britain. The foundries cast signs originally for the railways and canals, and their use was extended to name the keepers’cottages along the canalside and railway crossings.
David had always wanted to make these signs and so devised methods of manufacture using modern and more durable materials.
The result is today a business manufacturing signs for both domestic and commercial applications. The company employs 12 people in the small village of Tebworth.
As well as the signs the company has expanded to supply a wider range of products to provide a more complete range for our customers.
The letter box business was started by David and two employees of the company about 13 years ago with a container load of US Mail boxes. These proved very popular and the range was increased to include the European style of box.
Signs of the Times has recently become a limited company including the letterbox business. The intention is to expand both the sign and letterbox business over the next few years.
Designers, manufacturers and suppliers of signs and decorative panels for the past seventeen years, Signs of the Times has built up a large and varied group of discerning clients in all fields.
From an original range of cast polyurethane signs, the company has expanded into cast bronze, aluminium and grp as well as engraved brass, bronze, slate, granite and perspex, cast and cut-out letters to any size and a large range of letterboxes.
Along the way, the company has acquired a vast wealth of knowledge concerning the deployment of signs, and a deep insight into the ways that clients needs can be best met. Signs are designed artistically by perception rather than the stereotype computer generated images.
